I fell in love with whales the first time I came to New Zealand, I will never forget the first day I saw one in Kaikoura. It was overwhelming. When I moved to Nelson I heard that pilot whales often get stranded in Farewell Spit, so I signed up with Project Jonah as I was really wanted to help them in any way I could. I have been to every stranding in that area since I’ve lived here.
The photo above this text on the left shows a moment in which the baby whale that had been stranding for hours feels that there is enough water around her so she can freely swim again. She started to make the most amazing happy sounds just before I let her go.
